FAQs

  • The Spring season runs from the first weekend of April to the second week of June, and the Fall season starts the first week of September and runs until mid November. Playoff dates are decided before the season starts.

Our U15 Girls team will be starting in February 2026

  • Registration for Atom and Peewee is $150 and includes gear rental (helmet, shoulder pads, pants/girdle), insurance and all league fees. A deposit of $100 is required for gear rental.

  • We try to keep additional costs to a minimum for families through proceeds generated from bottle drives and local business sponsorships. We ask that if you are able to, please support our sponsors! Nominal costs, should they arise would be for upgraded bus transportation for away games and optional items as team pictures, championship items, team branded clothing and end of year banquet tickets.

  • Ladysmith Steelers Football Association is a 100% volunteer run organization and we always appreciate those who are willing to donate their time! While football experience or knowledge is preferred to those who wish to help coach, there are many other roles that need to be filled as well. We are always on the lookout for those individuals who would be willing to help on game days or assist in administrative roles. Email us through this website or talk to your team managers!

  • We believe that financial challenges should not stop children from being able to experience this wonderful game that we all love. Ladysmith Steelers Football qualifies for the Jumpstart program. You can access the application portal by clicking here.  If you are encountering additional challenges that are affecting your child's ability to participate in our programs please reach out to your team manager. We may have other resources available for you and confidentiality is always maintained.

  • The fall football season is relatively short, lasting approximately two to three months, from early September to mid-November or early December, depending on the division and how far a team advances in the playoffs.

During this period, the time commitment is intense. Starting at the U10 (Atom) division and continuing through our programs, practices typically last between 90 minutes and two hours and are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with games often scheduled on Saturdays.

Because football is a team sport, where success heavily depends on every player fulfilling their role, we ask parents to ensure their athletes attend every practice and game unless absolutely necessary.

  • While we recommend that children start participating in our U10 Atom program for the best overall learning experience there is no reason a child can't start at any age and we encourage new players in all our divisions. However, there are some things that parents (and children) should be aware of:

From U12 (PeeWee) on: Football is treated as a competitive sport meaning our purpose as teams is to win as many games as possible. Teams keep score, leagues keep standings and there are championships awarded. We try our best to make sure that every player gets at least double digit plays in every game, however players who miss practice may not be eligible due to safety concerns.

  • We believe the best way to prepare your child for football is to get involved with them. Watch games together on TV, learn the rules, and discuss what you're both seeing. If possible, watch youth football highlights on YouTube or, even better, if your child is considering playing next season, bring them to an LSFA game or practice so they can experience it in person. Reach out to us to find out about our next home game!

  • All of our home games and practices take place at Forrest Field in Ladysmith. The location of away games will be sent out with the schedule.

  • All dressed players are guaranteed 10 plays in every game under VICFA rules. Playing time (and positions) outside of the 10 plays will be decided by coaches based on a number of criteria including effort and attitude.
